Towards the end of next year the new BMW X8 will debut which will represent the pinnacle of the German brand’s SUV range. The first shots of the camouflaged prototypes appeared in the road test phase which made it possible to discover that the line will not be Coupé style as originally thought. The future SUV, in fact, will keep the boxy line of the X7. This could suggest that the car will always be offered with 3 rows of seats and 7 seats.
The details of the design of the future X8 are not yet known but the mechanical basis will be that of the X7 (Here our test). This means that there could be petrol and diesel engines with mild hybrid technology, a Plug-in unit and a 4.4-liter V8 for the M50i version. Compared to the current X7, the apex of the range will be represented by a High power Plug-in model edited by the M division. According to reports from Autocar, it should have a V8 with a displacement of 4.4 liters combined with an electric motor of about 200 hp (147 kW).

Although there are no certain details, the maximum power should reach 750 hp (552 kW). Traction would be integral. If the values are confirmed, la futura BMW X8 M Plug-in, known internally as Project Rockstar, will be the most powerful model offered for sale by the German brand. The Plug-in system of the powertrain will drastically reduce fuel consumption and polluting emissions, very important aspects given the size of the vehicle. This version of the future German maxi SUV is expected to debut in 2022. Speaking of prices, the X8 certainly won’t be cheap. According to the source, the basic version should start at around 88,000 euros.
