BMW is actively developing hydrogen technology and plans to release a small series of hydrogen electric vehicles. Jürgen Güldner, project manager for hydrogen cars at the company, explained why now is the time to bring hydrogen into series production. Although the market was previously unprepared due to the lack of infrastructure for hydrogen refueling, this will change by the end of the decade Hydrogen cars can be refueled in a few minutes, like gasoline cars, which is especially important for people who do not have the opportunity to charge batteries often, for example, in big cities like New York and Tokyo. Hydrogen cars offer the convenience of traditional cars, but at the same time retain the benefits of electric cars – quiet and environmentally friendly mobility sees hydrogen as a second path to climate-neutral mobility, along with cars electricity. Güldner emphasizes that hydrogen technology will reach a wider range of drivers for whom conventional battery-electric vehicles are not suitable. With the development of hydrogen infrastructure, for example in the US and the EU, the cost of these cars should decrease significantly. BMW is confident that hydrogen is an important part of the future energy revolution.
