The German car manufacturer BMW will officially present the “Vision Neue Klasse” electric car concept on September 2, where we will see what the Bavarians intend to do with their new generation electric cars. Olivers Cipse, chairman of BMW’s board, emphasizes that the concept is very close to what this car will look like in serial production and the car will be on the roads very soon. Almost 60 years ago, BMW launched the original Neue Klasse model family, which brought a radically different design and a range of innovations to BMW models, paving the way for BMW’s success and what we know the manufacturer to be today.
“The decision taken at the time to create a completely new product offering led to BMW’s success that has continued for decades. Now we are turning the vision back into reality – I promise you that the Vision Neue Klasse concept is close to series production and will be on the highways soon,” says Cipse.
Neue Klasse is the new generation BMW electric car platform and not just one specific car. It is expected to arrive very quickly – BMW plans to offer at least six new electric models using this platform within two years of the launch of the first model. The automaker has hinted that the first model of the new platform will be an electric sedan, and it is often speculated that it will be an electric counterpart to the 3 Series.
Production of the new models is planned to begin in 2025 in the Hungarian city of Debrecen, where BMW is building a factory specifically for this purpose. We got some insight into the manufacturer’s plans at the CES 2023 exhibition with the “i Vision Dee” concept, with BMW stating that some of the demonstrated technologies are actually being prepared for Neue Klasse machines.
These machines are expected to use a new type of BMW battery cells, with the manufacturer promising about 30% more range per charge than currently. Also, production costs will be reduced by about 50% and a higher charging capacity than before is also promised. It will be possible to equip the cars with batteries with an energy capacity of 75 to 150kWh, while the power of electric motors is promised from 268 to 1341 horsepower in the most powerful M electric cars.
