BMW has announced that it has completely abandoned the production of car internal combustion engines in Germany. The last eight-cylinder internal combustion engine was assembled by BMW at the Munich plant in November, in the future internal combustion engines will be manufactured by BMW, but in other countries. To be precise, it should be noted that BMW still continues to produce internal combustion engines for motorcycles at the Berlin plant.
For the time being, BMW will produce internal combustion engines in Steyr (Austria) and also at the Hamshol plant near Birmingham (UK). BMW announced this move back in the fall of 2020, it’s no surprise, but it could cause big problems in Munich, because internal combustion engines have been assembled there for the past 60 years.
BMW i4 models have been assembled at the Munich plant for a year now, while the iX, i7 and i5 models are assembled by BMW in Dingolfing, which is located near Munich. The iX1 and iX2 models are produced in Regensburg, which is also about 50 km from Munich.
