When BMW unveiled the new 4 Series two years ago, and shortly afterwards the updated M3 and M4, many fans of the brand opposed the new design language, in particular the large “kidneys” in the front, which we eventually saw. at iX and i4.
It seems that this fashion it is not new at all, and BMW was able to present a model with a similar front grille at the beginning of this century, as evidenced by the concept of the 90s ZBF-7er. The limousine, codenamed similar to aircraft, is actually a prototype of the 7 Series, which never reached mass production.
As you can see in the photos, the “kidneys” are impressive, which look like an extended version of those in the E36, and retractable door handles are ahead of their time by at least a few years. Apart from an interesting exterior, the concept also boasts a very futuristic interior for its time. Some of the technologies and solutions can be found in the BMW E65 presented a little later or the current 7 Series.
