BMW presents its new K 1600 roadster in GT, GTL, B and Grand America versions

BMW Motorrad’s flagship is getting a facelift for 2021, bringing with it some technical novelties and a redesigned design.

Great traveler par excellence, the BMW K 1600 is renewed this year but does not change the basics. The 6-cylinder engine that has been driving it for 10 years is still in the game but it is seriously updating this year, in particular by complying with Euro 5 standards. If the 1649 cm3 produced still 160 hp, the latter now arrive 1000 rpm earlier for greater flexibility (6,750 rpm) while the torque goes from 175 to 180 Nm. The Dynamic ESA adaptive suspension is obviously still in the game but has been recalibrated to offer ever more comfort over long distances without forgetting agility.

The new flagship block concentrates the bulk of the cosmetic changes, with a 100% LED and directional lighting as standard. In addition to the classic GT and the GTL, which notably includes a top case with integrated headrest and a different screen, the K is also available in version bagger K 1600 B, like the eccentric R18. The latter is distinguished by contoured cases, different exhausts, and a streamline look with a low and elusive rear. What to recognize it at first glance! Finally, one last Grand America variation is a mix between the bagger and the GTL, taking advantage of both the streamlined line and an imposing top case.

New instrument cluster

If each has its own style, all the K 1600 vintage 2021 have in common a new 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. The latter notably includes navigation, to avoid the multiplication of screens on the handlebars. Finally, the highly equipped K 1600 GTL and Grand America have a 2.0 audio system as standard, optional on the other two. All are already available to order, at prices starting at € 27,440 for the GT, € 27,490 for the B, € 29,640 for the GTL and € 30,900 for the Grand America.
