The German car manufacturer BMW is facing a pleasant problem – due to very high demand, the BMW M department has increased the production volumes of the M3 Touring, or station wagon. This was confirmed by the head of the M department, Frank van Meel, in an interview with the media BimmerToday.
He explains that the high performance of the machine and the practicality of the body of the station wagon turned out to be a very popular combination among customers. BMW has responded by increasing production volumes, but cars still have to wait a long time. The head of the M department, however, notes that the M3 Touring is not a limited edition model and their number is not limited, so everyone who wants this car will be able to buy it.
“I will say this – if you want this car, then order it now. The demand is incredible and even we are surprised. I think it’s a very stylish car and a very good addition to the M model family, but I will admit that the demand is unexpectedly high, so we have adjusted the production volumes to produce more units,” van Meel says in the interview.
BMW management was against the creation of the M3 Touring model for many years. A prototype wagon was created for the E46-generation M3 model, but it never made it to the production line. In the end, the management of BMW was convinced that such a version is needed for the current generation M3, and it looks like this decision is paying off handsomely for the manufacturer.
