After BMW announced in recent weeks that certain models could not be ordered with head-up displays due to the semiconductor crisis, it became clear today that the company is removing another feature from most of its models for an unknown period of time.
A user at the Bimmerfest forum announced that since the beginning of the week BMW has stopped installing touch screens on the 3 Series, 4 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe, as well as on the Z4, X5, X6 and even X7.
BMW confirmed the news, citing the growing difficulty of finding semiconductors and announcing that the owners of the affected cars will receive compensation of about 400 euros. In this way, the brand’s infotainment system will be able to be controlled only by the controller on the center console or by voice commands. Along with the elimination of the touchscreen, the extras also eliminate the reversing assistant.
