Jakarta –
Car sales in Indonesia in 2023 will fall by four percent compared to the previous year. However, what is interesting is that in the premium segment, BMW Group Indonesia actually posted a sales record.
Responding to this phenomenon, BMW Group Indonesia analyzed that the price of non-premium Japanese cars is now getting closer to the selling price of European premium cars. This is the reason why prospective car buyers are considering adding a little more and switching to the premium car class.
“Yes, let’s see, yesterday’s Gaikindo data, what was the target yesterday? 1,050 million, in reality it wasn’t achieved, right. Actually the total market is down, but if we open the Gaikindo data, the premium actually goes up,” said Director of Sales BMW Group Indonesia Ariefin Makaminan told journalists at the BMW iX launch event in Jakarta some time ago.
“Yes, what was asked earlier was (why did BMW break the sales record) right? From the way I see it, it’s more in the direction of price or pricing, there are segments, right? Pricing is now Japan or others starting to get closer. Very very close now. Yes people finally have a choice,” he continued.
BMW claims that currently the premium class car purchasing mechanism is balanced between paying cash and credit. So they carry out strategies in terms of financing so that prospective car buyers in this premium class get a profit.
“Secondly, of course we are like BMW, we are looking for solutions, right? Whether it’s financing and so on, we’re talking about interest and so on. We’re looking for solutions. That’s the end, if you could say, most of the customers we see end up switching. Yes. “If I only add that much, I’ll change to a BMW, then I’ll change to a BMW. And this is the reality we see,” said Ariefin.
“A lot of people are looking, wow, I can’t sell because of the BMW. Well, just look at the prices, everything is so tight,” he concluded.
It was previously known that BMW Group Indonesia posted a sales record throughout 2023. They managed to sell more than 5,000 units of cars consisting of the BMW, BMW M and MINI brands.
In total as a group, BMW Group Indonesia recorded an increase in sales of 35.3% compared to 2022. Apart from that, they also dominate sales of premium electric cars with 60.5% of the current total market.
