BMW CEO again expresses doubts about rival Tesla

There is absolutely no comparison between the German car manufacturer BMW and its American rival Tesla in terms of quality and reliability. Oliver Zipse, chief executive of BMW, said this at an event hosted by the German business newspaper Handelsblatt was organized.

It is not the first time Zipse has criticized the American company. Earlier this year, the BMW CEO had said he doubted Tesla was equipped enough to defend its current market leadership against growing competition.

Premium segment

“BMW and Tesla look very different against quality and reliability ,” Zipse remarked during the event of the Handelsblatt on. “We have very different aspirations about customer satisfaction.”

BMW announced the launch of two electric models – the i4 sedan and iX SUV – in recent weeks. Sales of the number of electric cars at the German manufacturer almost doubled during the first nine months of this year to more than 230,000 units.

However, that figure pales in comparison to Tesla’s performance, which was able to sell 241,300 electric cars during the third quarter of this year alone.

“However, Tesla is not quite part of the premium segment,” says Zipse. “The American manufacturer is driving its strong growth with price reductions. BMW would never consider that, because it has to be looked at over a longer period of time.”

1 trillion dollars

Volkswagen is also striving to close the gap with Tesla. The manufacturer has a plan to sales of fully electric cars to double this year and have 50 electric vehicle models on the market by the end of this decade.

Tesla’s rivals are bringing new electric models onto the market at lightning speed, but so far that does not seem to be able to undermine the market leadership of the American group. Bloomberg.

“Last month, an agreement with rental company Hertz Global Holdings saw Tesla’s value for the first time above the limit of 1 trillion dollars rose.
