BMW CE 02: A Pioneer in Youthful Mobility – Agility, Practicality, and Distinctive Design

The electric novelty from the BMW Motorrad workshop wants to be a pioneer, it promises a new form of youthful mobility and attracts agility, practicality, robustness and a distinctive design.

The BMW company, or rather its motorcycle division BMW motorcycle, boasted a new machine that goes off the charts. According to the Munich company, it is not an e-motorcycle or an e-scooter. Novelty CE 02 is described as an eParkourer, created for the urban environment, where it should appeal with agility, practicality, robustness and minimalist design.

With the CE 02, we at BMW Motorrad are trying something new – we want to be pioneers again. Thanks to its unusual proportions and distinctive graphics, the new CE 02 represents an easy-to-grasp and youthful form of one-track mobility. The reduced design language means lightness and fun. The emphasis is not on utility, but on emotional appeal, driving pleasure and simple, almost intuitive use,” explains Edgar Heinrich, head of BMW Motorrad Design.

Although the design of the motorcycle is reduced, it still has something to impress. For example, its saddle was inspired by a skateboard, which exudes freedom and lightness. The wheel rims were designed to underline the proportions of the machine, which is mainly decorated in black in combination with matte granite metallic.

In addition, the simple design leaves future owners plenty of space for their own design modifications, which are thus not limited. But for those who would like a distinctive machine from the factory, BMW will offer a special version of the Highline with an extrovert and colorful appearance, including gold-anodized front forks and a color belt with a contrasting shade of Petrol.

The BMW CE 02 drive provides air-cooled synchronous electric motor with excited rotorwhich is powered by a pair of air-cooled lithium-ion batteries with an operating voltage of 48 V. Each battery has a capacity of 1.96 kWh and can be individually removed for easier maintenance.

The motorcycle is available in two versions. Basic offers maximum power 11 kW, nominal power 6 kW and can be driven by riders over 16 years of age. The powerful electric motor offers a torque of 55 Nm right from the start and manages to move the machine from 0 to 50 km/h in 3 seconds. The maximum speed is up to 95 km/hthe maximum range should be around 90 km (according to WMTC).

In the version with a power of 4 kW (nominal power of 3.2 kW, one battery with a capacity of 1.96 kWh and a speed limited to 45 km/h), the BMW CE 02 meets the requirements of the driving license group AM, so it can be driven, for example, in Germany drivers from the age of 15 and also drivers who have a driving license of group B, i.e. only for a car. However, the possibilities of who can drive individual variants differ according to the regulations in specific countries.

The machine is equipped with two driving modes as standard: Flow and Surf. Flow mode is designed for “smooth sailing” through city traffic with soft throttle response, while Surf mode brings direct drive response, dynamic acceleration and limits recuperation. As part of the optional Highline equipment, the sporty and dynamic Flash driving mode is also available.

BMW CE 02 will be supplied as standard with an external charger with a power of 0.9 kW, which charges the more powerful 11 kW version from 0 to 100% in 312 minutes and the weaker 4 kW version in 182 minutes. Charging from 20 to 80% takes 168 minutes for the more powerful version, 85 minutes for the weaker version. However, the optional Highline also includes a more powerful 1.5 kW charger, which charges the 11 kW version from 0 to 100 percent in 210 minutes and from 20 to 80 percent in 102 minutes.

Let’s add that eParkourer BMW CE 02 weighs 119 kg (4 kW version) up to 132 kg (11 kW version), the seat is at a height of 750 mm, the double frame made of steel tubes promises high rigidity, the front wheel is guided by hydraulically damped telescopic forks with a tube diameter of 37 mm, and the rear uses a die-cast aluminum swingarm.

The BMW CE 02 is slowed down by front and rear disc brakes, assisted by the BMW Motorrad ABS anti-lock system at the front. The equipment also includes a color display showing driving speed, battery charge status and other information, a USB-C charging port or Bluetooth connectivity. An optional accessory is a phone holder from SP Connect.

Unfortunately, the Czech press release does not mention the price or availability of the BMW CE 02 machine, but overseas the price should start around $7,599, which is approx. 165,300 CZK. This can be a really interesting and unusual entry into the world of BMW Motorrad.
