A BMW car was hit by a train a short time ago on the outskirts of Nimigea de Jos. The impact was so strong that the car flipped and the driver was stuck between its wheels. His condition is very serious. A SMURD helicopter was requested.
At the scene of the accident, the military firefighters from Năsăud intervene with the SMURD module consisting of a first aid crew and extrication crew, with the support of the SMURD mobile intensive care team.
The driver of the car, a young man called Robert, is 18 years old and from Nimigea de Jos.
The young man did not stop at the level crossing with the acoustically and brightly signaled railway, most likely blinded by the sun. The car was pushed onto the tracks by the Cluj-Napoca – Galați high-speed train for a distance of over 200 meters.
Medical crews decided to call for a SMURD helicopter to transport him to a specialized medical facility to save his life. The helicopter landed in the field around 12:30 p.m., right next to the railroad.
Dozens of people gathered at the scene of the accident, most of them locals, including the young man’s family who continuously screamed: “Woe, Robert!”, “It’s impossible!”.
It took the firemen 10 minutes to get the driver out of the car
“Military firefighters found the male victim, 18 years old, in a state of unconsciousness, incarcerated.
The extrication crew proceeded to remove some elements of the body, to ensure access to the victim and to extract him safely, without aggravating the injuries already suffered.
After about 10 minutes, the victim was extracted and handed over to the SMURD crews.
Shortly after, a SMURD helicopter landed near the place of the railway accident, and after stabilization and preparation for air transport, the victim was picked up unconscious by the aircraft and transported to a trauma center in the municipality of Târgu Mureș.

The police opened a criminal case
“Today, the policemen of the Năsăud Road Department and those of the Transport Police County Bureau intervened in a railway accident reported in Nimigea de Jos.
At the scene of the event, the police determined that a car driven by an 18-year-old man from Nimigea de Jos was hit by the Inter Regio Cluj-Napoca – Galați train at a level crossing with the railway.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the car suffered injuries that required transportation to the hospital, where biological blood samples are to be collected in order to determine the blood alcohol level, his state of health not allowing testing with the breathalyzer.
Railway traffic in the area was affected during the investigation of the accident site, the locomotive suffering damage.
The police are continuing the investigations in a criminal file regarding the crime of culpable bodily harm, and the causes and circumstances of the event will be determined,” the Police said.
A rescuer from the diving team, among the first at the scene of the accident
A diver was among the first to arrive at the railway accident. Rescuers from the extrication crew found him in the car hit by the train, providing first aid to the unconscious victim, with stabilization begun, and later helped extract the young inmate.
He did not leave there until after the victim was loaded into the SMURD mobile intensive care unit.
