Frank Weber, a member of the board of the German car manufacturer BMW in matters of research and development, has categorically rejected the speculations that the Bavarians could abandon internal combustion engines, completely switching to an electric car. There have been rumors in the German media that BMW may stop investing in internal combustion engines, especially as rivals increase investment in electric powertrains.
BMW is about to present its new generation of electric cars called Neue Klasse. It is known that the first model will be an electric sedan about the size of the 3 Series, but soon after that will be the new iX3, but later we can expect a new, electric M3 with four electric motors and a power of over 1000 horsepower.
Weber noted the new Euro 7 emission standards for which BMW is preparing its engines. He also explains that these technologies are being developed not only for the needs of Europe, but also for the needs of China and the United States. Olivers Cipse, chairman of BMW’s board, has previously publicly expressed his support for synthetic fuels as one of the alternatives to keep internal combustion engines in use.
