The auction house RM Sotheby’s yesterday lowered the virtual hammer for the online auction of the cars that Diego Maradona used in Dubai. Its about BMW i8 Coupe and from Rolls-Royce Ghost, for which it was expected to receive total offers above the 230 one thousand dollars.
In the end, the two cars owned by the Argentine footballer – who died last November – got a new owner for values lower than expected: the Rolls-Royce was sold for 140 thousand dollars (offers between 120 thousand and 150 thousand were expected) and the BMW changed hands for only 40 thousand dollars (they forecast offers between 60 thousand and 80 thousand).
These two were Maradona’s personal vehicles while he lived in Dubai, between 2011 and 2018. After the footballer’s death, the heirs repeatedly mentioned these cars as part of the patrimony to be distributed among the relatives.
However, according to Sotheby’s, this is not true.
Maradona would have sold the cars in 2018 and his buyer was the one who just sold them at this auction. The name of that owner or the new owners of the cars did not come out.
