The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned people of potential heavy rains and bad weather in several regions in Indonesia during the Eid al-Fitr exodus period. According to the BMKG’s Public Meteorology Centre Head Fachri Ridjab, heavy rain could occur in Aceh, South Sumatra, West Java, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua, with other regions also at possible risk. The Maritime Meteorology Centre Head, Eko Prasetyo, has asked residents seeking to return home for Eid by sea to avoid sailing around the western waters of Sumatra, southern waters of Java until Nusa Tenggara, and northern waters of Papua, which are expected to have high tides. Furthermore, he asked residents to anticipate possible delays due to rainy weather expected to occur in various places throughout Indonesia. BMKG will continue providing information to keep travellers updated with the latest weather conditions and wave heights before embarking on their journey by sea.
