cilacap –
BMKG Banjarnegara Geophysics Station held an earthquake field school (SLG) for communities in the coastal area of Cilacap, Wednesday (27/7/2022). BMKG also invited local governments and stakeholders in this region, considering that Cilacap Regency is an area that is very vulnerable to earthquakes and disasters. tsunami. BMKG reminded about the worst scenario for disaster mitigation on the coast of Cilacap.
“Cilacap, which is on the southern coast of Java, faces the plate collision zone between the Indian Ocean Plate and the Eurasian Plate. From the results of the tsunami modeling with the worst scenario, it is feared that there is a potential for a tsunami with a height of more than 10 m on the Cilacap coast as a result of an earthquake. with a power of M = 8.7 in the zone megathrust in the plate collision,” said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati when opening the SLG activity on the BMKG official website, as seen on Friday (29/7/2022).
Dwikorita also asked the local government and the community to continue to prepare for the worst-case scenario. Dwikorita said that the worst-case scenario was not a prediction, but was the result of a study by experts and seismic experts. However, regarding when it will occur, he said, it cannot be known, considering that until now there is no single technology that is able to predict when an earthquake will occur.

“The calculation of the worst scenario is a reference for preparing mitigation measures. So if an earthquake and tsunami occur at any time, the government and the community are ready and know what to do, including when and where to run to save themselves safely. independently or in groups,” he said.
The head of BMKG also highlighted the role of the private sector to be involved in disaster mitigation efforts in the Cilacap area, as part of the synergy pentahelix in disaster management.
“The involvement of the private sector in the industrial area in Cilacap Regency is also highly anticipated in strengthening the regional early warning system that has been built with community self-help in a limited number. Given that the industrial and economic area on the Cilacap coast is also included in the earthquake and tsunami prone zone, of course the parties The private sector/industry must also be prepared by strengthening the early warning system in the industrial area,” added Dwikorita.
“Without a reliable early warning and mitigation system, the after-effects of the earthquake and tsunami in industrial areas have the potential to exacerbate the intensity of the damage caused,” he continued.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Cilacap Tatto Suwarto Pamuji expressed his gratitude and gave the highest appreciation to BMKG for holding SLG in Cilacap Regency.
“No one can predict the earthquake and tsunami, everything is from God, from God. So like it or not, like it or not, you have to be ready. This readiness must be accompanied by education through this SLG,” said the Regent.
Tatto also hopes that participants who take the SLG can absorb the knowledge provided, transmit, apply, and explain to the community related to disaster mitigation.
Member of Commission V DPR RI Novita Wijayanti said all members of Commission V DPR RI agreed to support so that the BMKG budget can be maximized so that it can be used for important things related to disasters.
“This budget can be used for infrastructure, strengthening human resources, and training for the community and volunteers can be maximally implemented, so as to minimize the effects of the earthquake itself,” he said.
The SLG was held for two days on 27-28 July 2022. The activity was attended by 60 participants from various circles, such as the TNI, Polri, Basarnas, Satpol PP, PMI, representatives of SKPD, sub-districts, kelurahan/villages, volunteers, and the general public.
