BMKG forecasts heavy rainfall during Eid exodus flow, with Aceh, Palembang, West Java, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua to watch out.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Indonesia has predicted heavy rainfall exceeding 50-100 mm in several regions during the peak Eid exodus flow from April 19-21, 2023. The regions of Aceh, Palembang, West Java, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua have been advised to watch out for the predicted heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall has been predicted in other regions, and people have been urged to remain alert for 20-50 mm of rain of moderate intensity that may cause hydrometeorological disasters. During the Eid al-Fitr holiday period from April 22-28, moderate rain is predicted in several regions, while heavy rain has been predicted in North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Seram Island, and Papua during the Eid return flow period from April 29 to May 5. The BMKG will keep updating forecasts six hours before the incidents and intensify early warnings and coordinate with related agencies at the central and regional levels. The Directorate General of Sea Transportation at the Transportation Ministry also plans to support a smooth Eid exodus, including by coordinating with local BMKG stations to disseminate weather forecasts to maritime communities.
