Blum wants to go to the Bundesliga – Tief im West – Das VfL-Magazin

February 25, 2021 by Philipp Rentsch

Two weeks ago, coach Thomas Reis had to slow down his most dangerous winger. Danny Blum posted on Instagram before the home game against Eintracht Braunschweig that he was finally back after his four-week injury break. He probably hadn’t spoken to his coach at this point. Because Blum wasn’t part of the squad at all. “We didn’t want to take any chances after his injury,” explains Thomas Reis. Blum dropped out at the start of the second half due to muscular problems. After all, he was used as a joker against the Erzgebirge Aue. Now he could return to the starting line-up against the Würzburger Kickers.

Lots of scorer points

Because VfL can really use a man on the wing who is dangerous for goals. His representative Herbert Bockhorn did a decent job, but is nowhere near as dangerous. Milos Pantovic also failed to prove that he is really as good as those responsible judge him. In any case, Thomas Reis makes no secret of the fact that he is happy about the return of Danny Blum: “He hits great crosses from the barrel, is very fast, has excellent technique and shoots sharply and accurately. His high level of effectiveness distinguishes him. ”The defensive cooperation, for a long time the greatest weakness of the veteran, has improved significantly.

First and foremost, Blum is still in demand further up front. The numbers show how valuable it is. In 41 appearances for VfL, he has a total of 25 scorer points. This season he scored three goals and made two assists, with Blum only being part of the starting line-up nine times and not having played a single game over 90 minutes. In late summer, a corona infection put him out of action. It was not until the eighth match day that Blum was firmly in the starting line-up of VfL. In the weeks that followed until Christmas, the Bochum team also showed their best games so far this season. Blum contributed to VfL becoming a candidate for promotion.

Contract expires

His goals will also determine where he will play in the future in the coming weeks. The 30-year-old’s contract expires this summer, unless Bochum is promoted. In this case, the employment relationship would automatically be extended until 2022. If the club remained in second class, it would have to be renegotiated. However, the career plans do not necessarily provide for another year in the football lower house. Blum has emphasized several times in the past that he wanted to play in the Bundesliga again. Already last year rumors of change were launched and Blum was connected to various foreign clubs via the tabloid media.
