Settled in Limousin for a few months, the blues singer has just released her new album and has therefore quite naturally chosen Limoges as the setting for the clip of her title “Standing Tall”.
In the streets of Old Limoges, a prodigious voice of soul pierces the silence. It’s that of the Northern Irish blues diva, Kaz Hawkins.
Indeed, a few months ago, the blues singer unveiled her clip “ Standing Tall “, taken from his latest album ” Until We Meet Again “, released in 2023. To bring this strong text to the image, she chose the city center of Limoges as a setting.
This song, Kaz Hawkins dedicated it to all those affected directly or indirectly by domestic violence. Like a confession to his audience, this chorus testifies to a tormented past where the icon frees himself from his demons with power and determination:
I’ve been through a lot of trauma and abuse all my life, one of my spouses even tried to kill me. But I realized that writing allowed me to heal from this violence, so I started to write my own texts”, confides the singer.
This is also the whole purpose of his new album: to make a new start. “It’s a nice mix of all the genres that I like, there’s blues, where I come from, but also a lot of Irish influences, rock too… Everyone can find themselves in my songs .“
“This album is like the start of a new life. I really want people to understand that there is hope, that you must never let go and today, I can say it, I love life“.
Recently, Kaz Hawkins moved to the heights of Limoges. “I think the inhabitants of Compreignac have really adopted me, I feel very connected with the public here.“
It is here that she says she came to find the peace “. Far from Belfast and a past in turmoil, she is now opening a new chapter in her career. “This place reminds me of Ireland. In winter, it’s as cold as there.”, she confides.
More than ever rooted in the region, for the first time, on November 16, she will present herself at the Éclat d’Email festival in Haut-Vienne on occasion of the opening concert of the 2023 edition.
I am very honored to sing for the festival.
Kaz Hawkins
“We chose her, her in particular, for her talents as a singer, her power, her tone of voice. For programming, these are essential criteria and she fulfills them hands down.”confides Jean-Michel Leygonie, artistic director of the festival.
“I really like her character, she is a woman who takes a turn in her career at the age of fifty. I have always had a benevolent look for artists who arrive late”, he adds.
And because Kaz Hawkins’ native land is never far away, his loyal Irish audience has already promised him to come to Limoges next November for the inauguration of the Eclats d’Email festival.
