BlueBird Group Considering Toyota Alphard Hybrid as New Taxi Fleet and Expanding Electric Taxi Fleet in Indonesia

Jakarta

BlueBird Group has a premium shuttle service called SilverBird. Unlike regular services, SilverBird uses luxury vehicles such as the Toyota Alphard.

Deputy Main Director (Wadirut) of BlueBird Group, Sigit Priawan Djokosoetono emphasized that his party is interested in using Alphard Hybrid as a new taxi fleet. This large vehicle is a brand-new product that has just been launched at the GIIAS 2023 exhibition.

“Of course (Alphard hybrid) is our consideration. Because it’s a hybrid, fuel consumption is more economical,” said Sigit when talking about the possibility of using Alphard Hybrid as a new taxi fleet, quoted Friday (1/9).

However, Sigit ensured that BlueBird could not arbitrarily use Alphard Hybrid as a new fleet. Because, he said, there are a number of things to consider, including price and consumer needs.

“Then we also need to see whether it is in accordance with our capex purchases. The price is expensive, so we also need to adjust,” he said.

It is known that Alphard Hybrid is only a few weeks old in Indonesia. The vehicle uses the A25A-FXS engine with 190 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 236 Nm of torque in the 4,300-4,500 rpm range. Meanwhile, the price is IDR 1.6 billion with the status on the road in Jakarta.

Apart from the Alphard Hybrid, BlueBird is also eyeing several other environmentally friendly cars as a new taxi fleet, one of which is the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

BlueBird Wants to Increase Electric Taxi Fleet

On the same occasion, Sigit emphasized that his party would continue to add electric taxi fleets in Indonesia. However, regarding the choice of model, the BlueBird team will continue to discuss it.

“Our electric fleet has a target of buying quite a lot, we now have more than 200 units. We will certainly add more in the months ahead. We need to be careful in investing in electric vehicles, because car types change very quickly,” he said.

Previously, BlueBird was reported to be adding 500 units of new electric cars by the end of this year. However, said Sigit, the figure will be adjusted to the needs of the company.

“I think that (the target of 500 new electric cars) needs to be reviewed, because with the entry of new models, we need to adjust the delivery regarding which model is right. But we already have a plan,” he said.
