Blue Supermoon 2023: Witness the Rare Phenomenon in Indonesia

KOMPAS.com – The phenomenon of the blue supermoon or super blue moon can be witnessed by the people of Indonesia on 30 August 2023.

The occurrence of this phenomenon was informed by the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in its official statement, Thursday (24/8/2023).

According to research staff at the Bosscha Observatory, Bandung, West Java, Agus Triono PJ, the blue supermoon is a full moon phenomenon.

The mention of supermoon is pinned because this full moon phenomenon occurs when the Moon’s distance around the Earth is at its closest distance.

“So that the visible size of the Moon during the supermoon will be around seven percent larger than the usual full moon size,” Agus told Kompas.com, Saturday (26/8/2023).

How to see a blue supermoon

Agus explained, people can witness a blue supermoon like looking at an ordinary full moon using the naked eye.

However, his party recommends seeing the blue supermoon in a dark location or can also be witnessed using a tool.

In addition, people can also use cameras, binoculars, or small telescopes when they want to see the details of the craters on the surface of the Moon.

“It’s better if it’s dark, even though basically the full moon can be seen from anywhere as long as it’s bright at that time,” Agus added.

Agus added, the blue supermoon can be seen since the moon is visible around 18.00 to 06.00 according to the time of each region.

He gave an example, people who are in the WIB time zone can witness the blue supermoon starting at 18.16 WIB.

The impact of the blue supermoon on Earth

Agus said that the blue supermoon, which is a rare sight at the end of August 2023, could have an impact on Earth.

The impact of this phenomenon includes the ebb and flow of sea water and makes the view more beautiful at night when conditions are clear.

“For the rest there is no special impact or anything,” added Agus.
