(BC)(GP)(HDH)(UL) Region – Deadline for change of insurance number /

Ulm (ots) –

The new insurance year for mopeds, speed pedelecs and e-scooters begins on March 1st. Insurance cover is then only available with a valid green number plate!

The police can quickly see whether the number plate is up-to-date. Because the color changes every year and is green for the 2022/2023 insurance year. Vehicles with insurance plates then need new protection. Therefore, owners of such vehicles should take care of the renewal of the insurance in good time and get the current plate. Up to a speed of 45 km/h, no approval is required from the vehicle registration office. However, an operating license and liability insurance are still required. The so-called insurance indicator serves as proof of an existing insurance policy. This must be applied for in good time every year and changed by March 1st.

Motor vehicle insurance is always important. Because at one accident damage to property or personal injury can occur very quickly. This often results in repair costs and medical bills of several thousand euros. In order for the injured party to be compensated for his damage, insurance is absolutely necessary. This is regulated in the compulsory insurance law. Violating this is a criminal offense and, in the worst case, can result in imprisonment. In addition, the polluter, without insurance cover, has to pay for the damage with his private assets.

The following vehicles require an insurance license plate:

Mopeds with a displacement of no more than 50 ccm and a maximum design speed of no more than 45 km/h.

  • So mopeds, mopeds and scooters up to a maximum of 50 cubic centimeters.
  • Quads and trikes if they have the same specifications.
  • Mopeds and mopeds from production in the former GDR with a maximum speed of 60 km/h that were insured for the first time before March 1st, 1992.
  • Four-wheeled light motor vehicles with a maximum empty weight of 350 kg and a maximum speed of 45 km/h.
  • also Segways, where the electric drive enables a top speed of 20 km/h.
  • Pedelecs with motors over 250 watts or pedal assistance over 25 km/h or starting assistance over 6 km/h.
  • Motorized invalid wheelchairs (driving license class M and S).
  • Recently, an insurance license plate has also been required for e-scooters with an operating permit.
