At around 1.30 pm on Wednesday, December 22, 2022, a 27-year-old man attempted to steal a locked electric bicycle on the Bismarckallee in front of Freiburg Central Station. He was observed by a witness who immediately called the police.

The man initially tried to flee in the direction of the main train station without his bike, but was arrested after a short chase. He put up a lot of resistance and slightly injured two police officers.

As it later turned out as part of the investigation at the Freiburg-Nord police station, the man known to the office had two stolen pedelecs with him when he tried to steal the electric bicycle.

After the police measures at the police station were completed and the 27-year-old was allowed to go home, he was tried again some time later theft from an electric bicycle in the Bertoldstrasse area, not far from the police station, observed by an attentive witness. While the witness was still calling the police and describing his observations, the bicycle thief went to Fahnenbergplatz and tried to enter in another bicycle there too.

When the crew of the patrol car arrived, the man fled again and was again temporarily arrested with a stolen electric bicycle.

Further evidence was found in a subsequent search of the apartment ordered by the Freiburg district court.

An arrest warrant requested by the Freiburg public prosecutor’s office was issued and executed as requested. The suspect is now in custody.

The man, of German nationality, has made several police appearances in the past.
