Blue Jays To Add Lou Iannotti To Coaching Staff

Blue Jays Bolster Coaching Staff with Dodgers’ Hitting Guru

The Toronto Blue Jays are making a significant shift in their offensive approach with the addition of Lou Iannotti to John Schneider’s coaching staff. The news comes from TSN’s Scott Mitchell, who reports that Iannotti, known for his expertise in hitting development, will likely assume the role of assistant hitting coach under new hitting instructor David Popkins.

"Mitchell suggests Iannotti is likely to take an assistant hitting coach role under first-year hitting instructor David Popkins."

Iannotti, a relative newcomer at 32 years old, brings valuable experience from his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He climbed the ranks quickly, transitioning from a minor league hitting coordinator to overseeing multiple minor league levels. This upcoming season marks his first foray into the major leagues.

A former collegiate catcher at Quinnipiac University, Iannotti’s professional playing career was short but impactful. After a brief stint in the independent Frontier League, he dedicated himself to coaching, starting at the lowest levels of the Dodgers’ minor league system. His success working with young hitters ultimately led him to become the hitting coach for their Double-A affiliate before taking on his coordinator role.

Toronto’s offensive lineup has undergone notable changes this offseason. The departure of former hitting coach Guillermo Martinez was followed by the hiring of Popkins, while Don Mattingly, who previously acted as both bench coach and offensive coordinator, will now focus solely on his managerial responsibilities. Hunter Mense, who served as an assistant hitting coach last season, remains on staff.

The addition of Iannotti signifies the Blue Jays’ commitment to strengthening their offensive capabilities. Iannotti’s experience and proven track record in developing hitters are valuable assets as the team looks to build a formidable lineup capable of competing at the highest level.
