Blue Jays place Ryu’s name on injured reserve

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have left left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu on the 15-day disabled list ahead of Thursday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Ryu was retired after four innings of the Jays’ 7-3 win over the White Sox on Wednesday with inflammation in his left forearm.

He allowed two earned runs on four hits and threw 58 shots.

Ryu, who had to miss nearly a month earlier this season with the same injury, is in the third season of his four-year, $80 million contract. The 35-year-old South Korean is 2-0 with a 5.33 ERA in six games in 2022.

The Blue Jays signed right-hander Jeremy Beasley to AAA club Buffalo before the game. He was able to join the team in time for Thursday afternoon’s game.

The Jays are trying to sign an eighth straight victory. They are 29-20, five games behind the New York Yankees (34-15) and first in the American East.
