Blue House Intervention in KBS Personnel Affairs: Documents Expose Controversial Involvement

[앵커]

hello?

During the Lee Myung-bak administration, the Blue House created specific materials related to the replacement of KBS presidents and executives, and documents containing circumstances that intervened in personnel affairs were confirmed.

This is a Blue House document transferred to the Presidential Archives.

This is the exact opposite of the government’s assertion that it does not intervene in public broadcasting personnel affairs.

At the time, the person who served as the Blue House spokesperson and public relations chief was Dong-gwan Lee, a candidate for the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, ahead of the confirmation hearing the day after tomorrow (18th).

In August 2008, on the day of the board meeting to decide the new president after the dismissal of KBS president Jeong Yeon-joo, the Blue House spokesperson’s office recorded in detail from the situation before the start of the meeting to the time-by-hour progress and conclusion as if they were together in the meeting room.

A week later, the spokesperson’s office reported on the selection of KBS vice presidents, and even internal evaluations were written, such as ‘they are widely trusted in the company’.

These are the documents prepared by the spokesperson’s office during the days of spokesman Lee Dong-gwan.

At the time, a document containing the circumstances in which the Blue House deeply intervened in KBS personnel was also released.

The title is ‘Those who are subject to consideration and achievements during KBS personnel’, and the real names of four people appear.

At the time, it was written that they “induce the accusation of misappropriation of President Jeong Yeon-joo” and “contribute to the election of the candidate” in the election of the president of the association for a specific occupational group, “anti-government, that is, a person who opposes President Jeong Yeon-ju”.

When a rally against the president’s replacement was held, an employee who “used the equipment to prevent employees from participating in the rally” and “reported internal trends within the company and the trend of leftists’ struggle against the government” while serving as a union executive appeared.

In the document, a specific position was described as a ‘placement position’, but in fact, most of them were promoted as is.

At the time, the Blue House was recognized for the contribution of the replacement of the president, and it was grasping the information of the executives included in the promotion target.

Candidate Lee Dong-gwan, who has consistently denied allegations of control of the media.

The existence of documents containing sensitive information within KBS is also expected to be a major issue at the confirmation hearing the day after tomorrow (18th).
