Blue Box gives another update about Abandoned

The PS5 console-exclusive Abandoned was announced years ago, and its development (if the game even exists) can rightly be called a true shit show. Rumors about a link with Hideo Kojima made the Dutch game studio suddenly become world famous, and they choked quite a bit. The most recent facepalm-worthy debacle came earlier this year, when Blue Box said it was launching a “real-time experience app” on PS5 where they could finally see more of Abandonded.

That app came after two delays, containing a small teaser that you could just as well watch on YouTube or Twitter and was laughably little for a game that should have been in development for more than four years. Since then it has been quiet at Blue Box – until today: in a blogpost gives the developer a ‘peek’ behind the scenes.

According to the post, Abandoned has been in development since 2017, but has been Blue Box’s “main focus” since early this year. There are still plans to release a playable prologue in Q1 of 2022 (“with the game reveal being around the corner”), and there will also be an update in 2022 for the real-time experience app that will allow the tech behind the game. can be displayed (“visuals, audio and the DualSense Wireless Controllers’ haptic feedback”). It is unclear whether that should be something other than the prologue, or whether it is exactly the same.

Blue Box goes on to take some blame, saying they don’t want to make the same mistakes again. The real-time experience app was said to have been released “too early” due to pressure the studio felt from the public. Despite this, it’s been downloaded 3 million times and launched for 11 million sessions, says Blue Box, so they really want to make something fun out of it.

De Wacht expects nothing more from it, but will continue to follow the news with a well-filled bowl of popcorn. Abandoned is due out for PC and PS5.
