BLT Demo in Madina is Tense, the Deputy Police Chief’s Car is Burned by Residents

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Madina Wakapolres AKBP Wakama Zalukhu’s car was targeted for arson allegedly carried out by residents of Mompang Julu Village, Panyabungan Utara District, Regency Mandailing Christmas (Madina), North Sumatra, Monday (6/29).

Residents went on a rampage because they did not accept the police dispersing their demonstration demanding Mompang Julu Village Chief Hendri resign from his position.

“Yes, the Madina Wakapolres ‘car was set on fire by residents. There were two cars that were burned namely the Wakapolres car and the residents’ car. In addition, several motorbikes were also targeted for burning,” said North Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations, Commissioner of Police Tatan Dirsan Atmaja CNNIndonesia.com.

Tatan explained that initially residents blocked the Medan-Padang Cross Road (Jalinsum). In their action, residents demanded that the Head of Mompang Julu Village, Hendri Hasibuan be removed from his position.

Residents consider the Village Head to be not transparent in the distribution of the CoT-19 impact of BLT and the management of village funds from 2018 to 2020.

When the police tried to break up the Jalinsum blockade, residents put up a fight. They attacked the police with a stone throw.

In the action, the Chief of Police and Deputy Police Head of Madina attempted to negotiate so that residents disperse. But residents were increasingly angry and burned Madina’s Deputy Police Chief.

“They asked the village head to resign, the demands of the residents related to BLT. Well, this afternoon before 18.00 West Indonesia Time, personnel requested that residents disband, but residents acted anarchically by destroying and burning. Even 6 of our members there were injured , “explained Tatan.

Tatan added that until now the conditions there are still tense. Hundreds of residents still survive blockading the road. The police are trying to make the situation there conducive by making persuasive efforts and calling for residents to go home.

“Residents who carry out anarchist actions have not been secured. Because the police are still making persuasive and humanist efforts to urge people to go home immediately. This is what the Madina Police Chief has done. Because until now the road is still blocked, so we are trying to negotiate with residents,” he said.

Madina Regional Police stationed 120 personnel to secure the situation. Personnel from North Sumatra Regional Police Mobile Brigade were also on the way there.
