blow for CHAdeMO in the United States

Considered to be one of the largest fast charging networks in the United States, Electrify America has announced that it will stop installing Japanese standard chargers.

Once a pioneer in fast charging, the CHAdeMO is gradually losing market share. Already undermined in Europe where the Combo CCS is now widely preferred, the Japanese standard has just suffered a serious setback in the United States. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen group launched following the dieselgate, Electrify America has just announced that it will no longer install new CHAdeMO stations on its stations.

Adapt to the market

More than favoring one or another standard, the choice of Electrify America is above all pragmatic. As in Europe, the Combo now equips most of the new models launched in the United States. Result: frequentation of terminals equipped with the standard melts like snow in the sun.

While today it represents 20% of the DC terminals installed by Electrify America, CHADEMO only accounts for 7% of all the charging events recorded by the operator. A decline which should accelerate further in the years to come …
