Argentina recorded the largest number of COVID-19 cases per person in Latin America last week, setting daily records, as the intensity of the pandemic outbreak appears to be easing elsewhere in the region, including Brazil, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.
The two neighboring countries are at odds on how to confront the emerging corona virus, which causes the disease.
Argentina has been in lockdown for about six months now, while Brazil is largely keeping its economy open.
Despite this, the two countries came in the list of the top ten countries in terms of the total number of HIV cases.
According to data from Bloomberg and Johns Hopkins University, in the past seven days, Argentina recorded 1603 cases per million people, compared to 931 in Brazil.
Argentina also has one of the highest rates of HIV infection in the world, at about 42 percent.
