It makes no sense to have blood tested for antibodies against the corona virus after a corona vaccination. That is what professor of epidemiology Pierre Van Damme said at the weekly press conference of the Vaccination Task Force.

At the moment it is not yet known from which concentration of antibodies in the blood protection against disease is guaranteed, says Van Damme. After all, not all antibodies that come out of a standard lab blood test are “neutralizing” or disease-preventing — several types of antibodies are created against the virus, not all of which are equally good at turning it off. Commonly used medical lab tests do not distinguish between these ‘neutralizing’ antibodies and other antibodies against the virus in the blood. This requires more specific scientific tests, which are usually not used in medical labs. Moreover, it is also not known what concentration of neutralizing antibodies is needed for protection against Covid-19.
Antibodies can also disappear from the bloodstream over time without decreasing protection against the disease. After all, there are still immune cells circulating in the blood that can launch an attack upon contact with the virus and help create new antibodies against it.
