A two-day blood drive is organized at the Hôtel-de-Ville in Saint-Étienne. The EFS, the French blood establishment, hopes for a return of donors in a difficult context.
At least 30,000 bags of blood are missing
To donate, you just need to be of legal age (from 18 to 70) and in good shape. These are the only two conditions. The health pass is not mandatory to make this citizen gesture. And donors, there is a need, since the state of stocks is alarming.
“It is not very good, we are below the safety threshold which is 14 days. We should have 100,000 pockets at the national level, we are around 70,000, so we have to be able to count on a response from donors“, warns the doctor Alain Lefebvre, doctor in charge of samples at the EFS of Saint-Etienne.
Needs in hospitals with the resumption of operations
“We see that at the level of certain collections, we no longer reach the objectives of the previous years. And then some people no longer dare to come, because they have had Covid-19, when we can come back after a few days, or because they have been vaccinated. However, this is not a brake. All this has impacted donors and yet, the need is important, especially at the level of hospitals where interventions are resumed, and all this requires transfusions.“.
Remember thatone donation can save three patients. If you wish to make a gesture, meet at the Saint-Étienne Town Hall this Wednesday and Thursday, between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., then from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
