Incredible tragedy at the Wiener Neustadt airport barracks: the duty officer shot the guard. Already during the night there had been a dispute in the barracks (the Jagdkommando is also located here), in the morning the 20-year-old conscript, who only enlisted in October 2022, would have rebelled and fired several shots.
The officer is said to have shot the guard. Spokesman Colonel Michael Bauer confirms: “At 6:52 the day officer had to shoot the guard. The man had previously rioted massively and wounded the officer. It is still unclear at this time whether the officer was wounded with the weapon or otherwise.” There was likely an exchange of gunfire. The fact is: the officer is in mortal danger.

The police investigation is only just beginning. The airport barracks only made headlines in 2019 when a 31-year-old soldier was hacked to pieces by two dogs – more on that here.
According to the police, the crime scene has been cordoned off over a large area, the investigation has been entrusted to the Lower Austrian State Criminal Police Office and the situation should be under control. According to the first internal reports, an act of self-defense is assumed, the relatives of the two federal army employees had already been informed on Friday morning.
