The number of blood donations in Ibiza and Formentera has increased by 5% in 2024. As highlighted yesterday by the Balearic Blood and Tissue Bank, in the Pitiusas the data collected in June and July are especially positive since the figure increased by 41% compared to the same period last summer, with 677 people coming to donate blood during that time, ultimately completing 529 donations.
56 citizens from Ibiza and Formentera came to donate for the first time in June and July. It is worth remembering that during June the Blood and Tissue Bank bus travelled around the Pitiusas for a week to encourage the extractions.
The Balearic entity yesterday thanked the collaboration of donors from Ibiza and Formentera, especially after learning of the urgency of recovering reserves of the 0 positive and 0 negative groups. The Blood and Tissue Bank of the Balearic Islands made an appeal to reverse the situation since in August the reserves have been below the optimal levels, while the demand in hospitals has increased in recent weeks.
According to the entity, reserves of groups 0 positive and 0 negative are currently below 50% of their optimal levels and are barely enough to cover two days’ worth of blood demand.
The Balearic Bank took the opportunity to remind that any healthy person between 18 and 65 years old and weighing more than 50 kilos can donate blood.
