The Woman Life Program –Which seeks to increase voluntary blood donation in Panama– has managed to maintain an average of 855 complete donations per month during the first semester of this year.
Data from the program, which collects blood for the National Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital and Santo Tomás Hospital, show that 5,131 people completed the blood donation process in these months, that is, 1,189 more people than last year during the same period.
The figures detail that in the months of May and June, the donations were practically the same: 851 and 884, respectively.
Macarena de la Rubia, coordinator of the Woman Life Program, attributed the increase in volunteer donors, in part, to the fact that the dating platform’s automations have already started to work.
“This automation consists of sending the donor an email reminding them that three months have passed since they donated and they can do it again. This has contributed to the fact that, in general terms, the percentage of voluntary donors to the program has increased from 22% to 23% compared to last month, ”he said.
The number of donations obtained in organized collections is higher than last year and it has also been possible to reduce the percentage of deferred [persona no apta para donar] from 35% to 29%.
Members of Dona Vida expect the trend to continue for years to come.
