“We urgently need new blood supplies,” explains Philipp Münning from the German Red Cross (DRK). Supplies were running out. On April 4 (Monday) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., a blood donation appointment organized by the DRK will take place in the children’s home. All interested parties are invited to the community center of the Markusgemeinde at Idenbrockplatz.
The number of donors has long left a lot to be desired, explains Münning, who works as a volunteer at the DRK blood donation service. Especially during the pandemic, the willingness to donate blood has continued to decline. In addition, no donations were possible during the first lockdown. Now the DRK wants to get started with fresh ideas to attract interested parties.
This includes childcare while the parents or accompanying persons donate blood. “Actually, we wanted to start with the date on April 4th, but the Corona regulations thwarted our plans,” regrets Münning. Childcare is therefore not (yet) allowed to take place and will only be introduced at a later date.
competition planned
But there will be another innovation: “Anyone who donates blood to us on April 4th can take part in a competition where there are café vouchers to be won,” says Münning happily.
After the donation, lunch bags will also be distributed, which you can fill as you wish.
The 3G rule applies to taking part in the blood donation on April 4th. This means that blood can only be donated by people who can show that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested (official rapid antigen test or official test certificate from the employer not older than 24 hours or PCR test not older than 48 hours). Online booking of an appointment is desirable, but not essential.
