The two residents of Saint-Leger-les-Vignes (Loire-Atlantique) met within the association after reading the appeal of the Association of voluntary blood donors of the Bouguenais.

“I wanted to stay human”

For Béatrice Foucaud it is clear: “I am retired and I wanted to be useful, to be involved in an association. »

For Emmanuelle Budès, it is a logical continuation of her professional career. “I have worked in the health field for a long time, particularly as a personal assistant. So I wanted to continue dedicating my time to others. I wanted to stay human. »

The association operates in the municipalities of Brains, Bouaye, Saint-Aignan-de-Grand-Lieu, Port-Saint-Père, Saint-Léger-les-Vignes, La Montagne and Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau.

One collection every two months

So here are two volunteers from the commune who are getting to know each other, overcoming their shyness and now complementing each other. » We have a program with a collection approximately every 2 months, including 2 or 3 times a year in Bouaye. We meet before each collection to prepare it, we distribute the posters and we are on site all day long. »

Thereby 18 volunteers are present with donors whose number has already risen to 240 in the Bouguenais. There is also a team of doctors and nurses who take turns throughout the day.

» We organize the food purchases, collect the room keys and prepare the reception with the health questionnaire, the offices and the snack. We make fresh sandwiches on site. They are varied and we also offer fruit juices and compotes. During the snack we monitor the donors to avoid inconvenience. We have highlights such as Candlemas or barbecues in August”, specify Béatrice Foucaud and Emmanuelle Budès.

On appointment

Today, donors register by appointment, which limits waiting times. » The shelf life of blood products is limited to 7 days for platelets and 42 days for packed red blood cells. Blood donations must therefore be regular et constants. By offering between an hour and an hour and a half of their time, donors are making an essential and generous gesture, a gift that saves lives”, the two Légiennes chorused on.

“A Source of Happiness”

The torque has found its cruising speed and is running well. They appreciate the support of the town halls and the welcome in the shops for the exhibition.

Emmanuelle Budès also takes care of social networks. She is a source of happiness. Everyone helps each other in a good mood. Volunteering is priceless and each volunteer offers a certain amount of time. »

Today the wishes of the president of the Marie-Pierre Ratez association strengthen the network volunteers in each municipality, especially in Port-Saint-Père and Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau.
