The Elche and Sant Joan campuses of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) host this week the second of their annual blood donation marathons. Donations will be made tomorrow, Tuesday, October 22 at the Elche campus and Wednesday, October 23 at the Sant Joan d’Alacant campus.
The university community of the Elche campus will be able to donate blood tomorrow in the Training Room of the Rectorate and Social Council building, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as in the lobby of the Altabix and Arenals buildings, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. 21 hours. Likewise, the marathon will move to the Sant Joan d’Alacant campus on October 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Francisco Javier Balmis building.
Every day, the province of Alicante needs 250 donations to care for people with different pathologies or needs. For this reason, community collaboration is important. The minimum requirements to be able to donate are to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and not go fasting.
On this occasion, the annual marathons have been brought forward to October to be part of the 10,000 donations Challenge that the Spanish Network of Health Promoting Universities (REUPS) carries out nationwide. This action is part of the UMHSaludAble Program and is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 #Health and Wellbeing of the 2030 Agenda.
