Blood Clots in the Brain and Lungs may Explain Symptoms of “Long Covid”: Study

A British study, led by a team of doctors from the University of Oxford, suggests that blood clots in the brain or lungs may explain some common symptoms of “long Covid”, including brain fog and fatigue.

In the study, which was conducted on 1,837 people who were hospitalized due to Covid, the researchers said that “two blood proteins indicate that clots are one of the causes.”

The researchers also thought that “16 percent of these patients had difficulty thinking, concentrating, or remembering for at least 6 months.”

The research team, from the Universities of Oxford and Leicester, stressed that “the findings are relevant only for patients who are admitted to hospital,” noting that it is “the first piece of the puzzle” but that more research is needed before they can suggest or test any potential treatments. “.

Study author Professor Paul Harrison, from the University of Oxford, said: ‘Identifying potential predictors and mechanisms was a ‘major step’ in understanding post-Covid brain fog, but there may still be many different causes of long-term Covid disease.
