Dark clouds are gathering around Blood Bowl 3. The developers have apologized to upset fans for the set of issues plaguing the newly released game.
Blood Bowl 3 seems to be in trouble. Fans are voicing their frustration en masse. Therefore, the developers issued an apology on Steam for everything that went wrong before and since the game was released. The game’s release was highly anticipated, but the excitement turned to fury as one problem after another appeared.
The trouble started even before its release, when Cyanide Studio announced that Blood Bowl 3 would include a pass, dubbed the Blood Pass.
The source of the outrage was not the 50-level battle pass itself, but the fact that it will have both free and paid levels. Fans have been heavily criticizing the developer for bringing monetization into the game. However, they clearly fell on deaf ears, as the battle pass system remained. To make matters worse, there were server connection issues even during the game’s early access period. This caused further frustration with Blood Bowl 3. But the state of the game after its release upset even more people.
The community update came just a day after its release on Steam, when the negative reviews started pouring in. Blood Bowl 3 has 945 reviews at the time of writing, and 72% of them are negative, putting the game in the “mostly negative” category. Cyanide Studio listed all the issues fans found with the game and addressed them in bullet points. Server connection issues seem to be fixed. However, when it came to the issue of Blood Pass, the developers expressed their support for the system.
Perhaps even more problematic, a Steam glitch caused some players who purchased the standard version of Blood Bowl 3 to receive the Brutal Edition, which includes a list of extra items.
To fix this issue, Cyanide Studio said that they will not remove the extra 1000 Warpstones that these fans received, but they will take away the extra customization options. On the flip side, players who purchase the Brutal Edition will receive an additional 1000 Warpstones to keep their edge, and Early Unlock players will be rewarded with 250 Warpstones on top of that. However, some fans who bought the standard edition reported that the Warpstones were still taken from them.
This series of events led to a very rough start for Blood Bowl 3, with many fans demanding refunds. Whether Cyanide Studio will be able to recover from this is not yet clear. It would be a shame for the developers of Werewolf.
