Last year, news broke that the adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi had been taken over by Disney.
At that time, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy was in talks to make the film a Lucasfilm property – and last week, during their Investor Day presentation, Disney confirmed it: Lucasfilm, in partnership with 20th Century Fox, will bring Tomi Adeyemi’s best-selling novel to the screen.
They killed my mother.
They took our magic.
They wanted to eliminate us
Now let’s get up!There was a time when the land of Orïsha was bathed in magic. But one night, everything changed, the king made her disappear and enslaved the people of the majis. Zelie Adebola was then only a child. Today, she has the means to bring back the magic and give freedom to her people; even if facing her stands the crown prince to the throne, ready to do anything to hunt her down.
In an imaginary Africa where white leopard prowls roam and where spirits thirst for revenge, Zélie sets off on a perilous quest …
In February 2019, Rick Famuyiwa was attached to the realization of this project. But since then, we do not know if he is still on board. Indeed, last year Deadline reported that the film had a new screenwriter, writer Kay Oyegun (This Is Us). But given that Famuyiwa has previously collaborated with Lucasfilm (he wrote and directed last week’s episode of The Mandalorian), chances are he’s still working on this adaptation.
Casting side, no information has yet been revealed. We therefore suggest, in the meantime, to rediscover a interview by Tomi Adeyemi on the occasion of the release of the 1st volume, Of blood and rage, published by Nathan.
