Blomberg. It has not gone unnoticed by attentive walkers along the Philosophenweg: Blomberg Marketing’s “Nelkenstädter Paradiesblick” wine project has been given a makeover. Blomberg Marketing points this out in a press release.
A total of 75 vines of the Regent variety have been newly planted, complementing the old stock that has shrunk over the years. André Köller, deputy chairman of the association: “My thanks go in particular to the employment project of Euwatec, which has actively supported us so that the small area becomes a fixed point on the historic vineyard again.”
In addition to the new planting and maintenance work on the paths, the Euwatec team, under the guidance of Gerhard Borowski, has brought the entire slope into shape. Individual rows were redrawn.
Last year the harvest failed
Uwe Feiert, who takes care of the vineyard together with Klaus Geise in a small project group from Blomberg Marketing, emphasizes: “Due to the poor condition of the grapes and the small amount of fruit, the harvest at the vineyard failed last year. It will now It may take a few years before we can think about a real harvest, but at least the beginning has been made so that the vineyard can once again deserve its name.” Now everyone involved is hoping for growing weather so that the new plantings will thrive.
Wine-growing has a long tradition in Blomberg, because not only the street name “Weinberggasse” proves the historical existence of this cultural asset in the city of carnations. The vineyard below the castle wall from the castle to the Niederntor is marked on a map from the 18th century. In 2005, an idea became a permanent project: together with the Old Blomberger Schützenbataillon and the city, Blomberg Marketing planted 99 vines of the Regent variety on a 100 square meter area – the birth of the “Nelkenstädter Paradiesblick”, which takes its name from the picturesque view of the valley called “paradise”.
