Blogger’s Mysterious Disappearance in China Linked to a Piece of Cake

The act of the Chinese streamer led this June 6 to the sudden cessation of its live broadcast on Friday even though it aroused a wave of comments. Since Friday, Lia Jiaqi, this blogger with millions of fans, has not posted anything except an abrupt message warning of a technical problem a few moments before his live was cut.

Li Jiaqi, 30, is best known as a cosmetics specialist and is often referred to as “the king of lipstick”. More than 100 million hashtags about the blogger’s disappearance surfaced on Monday. Indeed, the Chinese streamer not having appeared at his highly anticipated show on Sunday, this contributed to the momentum of reactions already underway.

“Politics fell on him”

“He did not think about politics, but it was politics that fell on him,” said a Chinese netizen following the disappearance of Li Jiaqi’s social networks. Indeed, the blogger’s gesture was immediately noticed by the authorities. His cake depicting a tank echoes the bloody crackdown in Tiananmen Square, whose 33rd anniversary arrived the next day. One thinks in particular of the famous images of tanks in front of the students gathered in the square for a peaceful movement in the heart of Beijing.

However, in China, most young people born after 1989 have never heard of the Tiananmen crackdown since it is not mentioned in the history books. This is why many did not understand the reasons for the sudden cut of the blogger’s show.
