Blocking Abusive Tags on Instagram Posts: A Guide

How to Block Tags to Prevent Abuse on Instagram

On Instagram, whether you have a public or private account, you may be tagged by default on posts by third parties. And including by accounts that you do not follow or that do not follow you. Very often, these identifications are the work of bots or fake accounts and are made on fraudulent publications.

It is however very simple to guard against it and here is the procedure to follow to block these identifications on Instagram:

  • Go to your account page via your profile picture at the bottom right,
  • Then, tap on the menu in the form of three bars, or burger menu, at the top right of the page,
  • From the drop-down menu that opens, choose Settings,
  • Then select Privacyschematized by a lock,
  • Then choose Publications,
  • Finally, in Who can identify youl’option Everyone is checked by undone, choose People you follow to put an end to inopportune identifications.

At the same time, you may be mentioned in the comments of a post. Again, you can easily block these mentions:

  • Follow the same path, going to the SettingsThen Privacy,
  • Choose Mentionsjust below Publications,
  • Check the permission to mention the People you follow.

The alternative to manual identification on Instagram

It is also possible to opt for the manual approval of identifications. You will be notified as soon as an account wishes to identify you and you will therefore be able to approve it, or not, manually. To do this :

  • Follow the same procedure explained above,
  • under the question Who can identify youIn Identified publicationsselect Approve IDs manually,
  • Then simply tick the manual identification and you will also find on this page the pending identifications, to be validated or not.

On Instagram, an army of bots massively identifies

March 2023 was marked by massive identifications on fraudulent posts, carried out by an army of bots. These fake accounts attempt to impersonate the Shein brand, one of the leaders in fast-fashion, and tag thousands of Instagram users. These posts invite people to click on their story by dangling gift cards, which is obviously a scam. At the end of 2022, already, fraudulent stories offered users to become a Shein brand ambassador.
