Blocked after shots: Halle train station is started again

The blockage of the central station in Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt could be lifted. This was announced by Deutsche Bahn on its website. Nevertheless, passengers have to reckon with delays.

The federal prosecutor temporarily closed the traffic junction after a fatal shootout in the course of the investigation. All ICE connections via Halle were affected. The long-distance trains were diverted via Leipzig and were delayed by around 15 minutes.

The following connections were affected by the restrictions:

– ICE trains on the Berlin – Erfurt – Frankfurt (Main) line
– ICE trains on the Hamburg – Berlin – Halle (Saale) – Erfurt – Nuremberg – Munich line
– ICE trains on the Berlin – Halle (Saale) – Erfurt – Nuremberg – Munich line
– IC trains on the Norddeich Mole – Emden – Bremen – Hanover – Magdeburg – Leipzig – Dresden line
– ICE trains on the Berlin – Nuremberg – Regensburg – Passau – Linz – Vienna line

Several shots were fired in Halle on Wednesday afternoon. At least two people were killed in the process. According to investigations to date, the authorities assume that the act was anti-Semitic because the shots were fired on the highest Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) near a synagogue. A victim is said to have been killed in front of a kebab snack bar.

The city had temporarily issued an official hazard warning. Residents were asked to seek protection in their homes. According to the police, the acute risk situation could be lifted around 6:15 p.m.
