Blockade Tata Steel IJmuiden passed | Financial

The blockade stopped around half past ten, reports works council member Gerrit Idema on Twitter.

On Monday evening, a number of night shift teams refused to go to work and demanded that director Hans van den Berg again explain the situation at the steel company. FNV director Roel Berghuis also had to come by to explain what the unions will do about the situation.

The group has been restless for a long time. Earlier on Tuesday, employees of the night shift stopped work. Last week there were spontaneous work stoppages and actions to express the displeasure. According to the union FNV, the anger about the state of affairs among the employees is enormous.

According to the works council, things threaten to escalate if there is no statement about the departure from India. Henrar previously agreed an employment guarantee with the unions, so there would be no layoffs until October 2021. FNV said earlier that it had the impression that the CEO does not resign voluntarily, but rather kindly says goodbye. The company contradicted this.

Minister of Economic Affairs Eric Wiebes previously called Henrar’s departure disadvantageous for the Netherlands.

In IJmuiden, approximately 9000 people work on the complex of the former Royal Blast Furnaces. Tata Steel in IJmuiden is part of Tata Steel Europe (TSE), which in turn is part of the Indian Tata Steel Limited.
