It is noted that the grain was supposed to be delivered in February and March, but it was not shipped due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. At the same time, the wheat bought by Egypt could not leave Ukrainian ports – one dry cargo ship was stuck in the port, and four others still need to be loaded.
It is reported that the Egyptian General Directorate for the Supply of Goods discharged trading companies Nibulon and Inerco from obligations despite the fact that there is no force majeure clause in the contracts.

It is worth noting that Egypt is the world’s largest importer of wheat. The country depended on the supply of Ukrainian grain. Since February 24, the authorities have been trying to diversify the supply of wheat, having bought more than a million tons in July through tenders and direct purchases.
At the same time, they read in the US that Moscow is deliberately preventing the export of grain from Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea to “those who suffer most from acute food insecurity.” At the same time, the Kremlin, through its propagandists, spread fakes that the sanctions allegedly concern the sale of products.
As UNIAN previously reported, on July 24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Egypt, where he said that Russia expects the UN to contribute to lifting anti-Russian sanctions. He again tried to impose a narrative that the West was to blame for the food crisis, and not the war in Ukraine, which Russia unleashed.
In turn, British intelligence noted that the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov is currently touring to Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and the Republic of the Congo. London believes that Russia “will try to use the visits to accuse the West of provoking an international food crisis and enlist the support of African states,” which remain neutral regarding the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine.
