Blockade of Kaliningrad – new EU sanctions will solve the supply problem

The European Union is trying to resolve the issue of the blockade of Kaliningrad in order to avoid aggravating relations with Russia. The new package of sanctions will adjust the rules for transit through Lithuania.

Some officials are worried that Lithuania could be pressured to allow the transit of banned goods to Kaliningrad, despite the fact that the country has imposed restrictions in line with sanctions that have been agreed to by the entire bloc, sources said.

At the same time, the ban on most goods is due to come into force only this month, in connection with which the European Commission plans to agree on new rules so that the confrontation with Moscow does not escalate.

Moscow, for its part, has threatened to take action against Lithuania if it continues to block rail transport of commodities such as steel.
