Blockade in Mexico-Puebla: chaos on the road today, August 7 | LIVE

The Siglo XXI highway is the best option for crossing the state of Morelos and reaching Mexico City, given the blockades on the Mexico-Puebla highway and federal highway, and Arco Norte.

It has been more than 26 hours since the blockade of the Mexico-Puebla highway, where residents of Santa Rita Tlahuapan are demanding payment for their lands.

The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) in its delegation in the state of Puebla, made an urgent call to the authorities to take the necessary measures to allow the reestablishment of circulation.

In a brief statement, the employers’ association said that the blockade is on roads “vital to the connectivity, economy and security of the region.”

“We urge the federal and state governments to resolve this situation immediately, guaranteeing the free movement and safety of all users of these important communication routes,” he said.

The employers’ union urged the federal government to free up traffic, which has been paralyzed for 24 hours.

Some drivers have taken advantage of a space where the fence dividing the lanes of this road was removed to cross to the other side and avoid the blockage.

The long queues included both trucks with merchandise and private vehicles. Some people opted to get out of the vehicles and walk.

During the morning press conference this Wednesday, President López Obrador said that behind the blockade there is a lawyer who wants to “take advantage.”

He said the claim is the non-payment of the right of way for decades.

“These lawyers are very opportunistic. I say this here so that it is known, because my heart is not a warehouse and we are not going to cover up for anyone. I tell the farmers that they are harming many people by blocking the road,” he said.

He criticized the lawyer for thinking he can take personal advantage of the end of the federal government, something that the president rejected and assured that he will not allow himself to be blackmailed by anyone.

Residents have set up tents to protect themselves from the sun, while hundreds of people wait for the blockade to be lifted so they can continue their activities.

These protests have already lasted more than 24 hours, during which time the governor of Puebla, Sergio Salomón, traveled to Mexico City to hold a meeting with Claudia Sheinbaum.

So far, he has not commented on the situation on his social networks.

Due to the disruption to the flow of vehicles, Mexican authorities approached the farmers with the aim of reviewing their petition and ensuring that their demands were met. However, the protesters themselves stressed that they did not reach any agreement and had to resume their protest on the highway.

For those who have to travel to Mexico City from Puebla, the best thing they can do is to detour along the Puebla-Tlaxcala highway and then take the bypass to Tlaxcala to get to the Mexico 121 exit, passing through Chiautempan then Mexico 117 and then Apizaco.

After joining the Mexico-Veracruz highway, take the second exit onto the Texcoco-Mexico federal highway, then head to Ecatepec and enter Mexico City via Mexico Avenue 136D.

Since very early on, the Federal Roads and Bridges Department of Revenue and Related Services (Capufe) reported that both directions are closed, which has affected hundreds of motorists since it is difficult to find an alternative near the area.

People are very upset and are demanding that the Federal Government deliver all the outstanding payments promised for the land expropriated for the construction of the road.
