The ÖBB is blocking three level crossings for the work, namely Auhofstraße, Veitingergasse and Jagdschlossgasse. The platform crossings are closed until Friday, June 4th. During the day, however, cyclists and pedestrians can cross the connecting railway via wooden walkways. Drivers, on the other hand, have to evade.
Work even at night
The track substructure is being renovated over a length of 800 meters as part of regular maintenance work. The ballast bed needs to be compacted. According to ÖBB, this is done by means of a 100-meter-long work train on which around 20 employees are on duty. The work also takes place at night.
The train lifts the track (rails and sleepers), compacts the ballast underneath and levels and profiles the track ballast. The track is then set up again with millimeter precision by the machine. According to ÖBB, this not only enables trains to travel safely, but also significantly reduces driving noise.
